Portrait Photography in Dallas–Fort Worth
Maternity, Western editorial, and everyday portraits across the metroplex.
I'm BK Bennett, and I photograph people all over Dallas–Fort Worth. Portrait sessions here cover a lot of ground. Some are for work, a headshot or a brand photo that still looks like a person instead of a stock image. Some mark something specific, a pregnancy or a last summer before everything changes. Most are simply because nobody has taken a good photo of you in years and you are tired of cropping yourself out of other people's pictures. I live in Greenville, just east of the metroplex, and I'm in DFW for sessions constantly, so getting to you is rarely the hard part.
The gallery below runs wider than most portrait pages, and that is on purpose. There is a maternity session shot at golden hour in an open field, with a red velvet settee hauled out into the pasture for it. There is a senior musician photographed with his guitar in a harvested field, against a stone barn, and under stage lighting. There is Western editorial work made inside a Texas dance hall, with a saddled roan horse walked in across the floor. There are fine-art equestrian frames with painted horses and matching face paint, group portraits in fringe chaps on a velvet sofa, and lake afternoons that look like a Texas summer.
Almost everyone tells me up front that they are bad at having their picture taken. That is normal, and it is fixable. I direct as much as you want and as little as you need, and I shoot through the in-between moments rather than waiting for you to hold a pose, which is usually where the photo you end up loving comes from. We settle the location first, because the background does most of the work before I raise the camera. Pastures, barns, country roads, water, brick walls, a stable. Bring the truck, the guitar, the boots, the dog, the horse. The things people are attached to are the reason the pictures look like them.
I shoot across the metroplex and the towns ringing it, from Fort Worth and Dallas out through Rockwall, McKinney, Greenville, and the farm roads in between. Spring and fall fill up first, partly because the light is kinder and partly because the fields are green or gold instead of brown, so it helps to reach out before the season you want. Tell me the date you have in mind and roughly how you want the photos to feel, and I will tell you straight whether I'm the right photographer for it. If you are looking for a graduating senior or a new baby, those have pages of their own.

Common questions
I hate having my photo taken. Can you work with that?+
That describes most of the people I photograph. I give direction the whole way through, so you are never standing there wondering what to do with your hands, and most of what I keep comes from the moments between poses.
Can we bring horses, trucks, or instruments?+
Yes, and those sessions tend to be the strongest ones. The portraits here include horses in open pasture and inside a stable, a weathered vintage pickup, an acoustic guitar, and a red velvet sofa carried out into a field.
Do you photograph maternity sessions?+
Yes. The maternity frames in this gallery were shot outdoors late in the day, one set in an open field at golden hour and one beside a lake at sunset.
Do you shoot indoors or only outside?+
Both. The gallery includes studio and stage lighting, a barn interior, and a dance hall. The rest is outdoors, because the land around here does a lot of the work for free.
Where do portrait sessions happen?+
Anywhere in Dallas–Fort Worth and the towns around it. I'm based in Greenville and drive into the metro regularly, so the location is a question of what suits you rather than what is close to me.
Can more than one person be in the photos?+
Yes. Several of the group portraits here were made with two or three people together, and couples appear in the maternity work. Larger family groups are a separate session, listed on the services page.
